Justin Ho

Attention-Deficity Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Healed at the Miracle Service, Singapore

Thirteen-year-old Justin Ho was already getting into trouble when he was in day care center. He not only fought with the children and teachers, but also walked away from the center as he pleased. It was not long before Jimson and Molly, his parents, had to find yet another child care center for him because he was such a terror to everyone.

In his primary school years, he had very short attention span. Easily distracted, he simply could not sit still and soon began to disturb others in class. He was interested only in playing and watching television. And when his teachers or parents corrected him, he would argue and literally fight with them.

In the year 2000, when his behavior turned more violent, Jimson and Molly brought Justin to a psychiatrist who diagnosed him as suffering from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a behavioral disorder exhibiting increased motor activity in association with poor attention span and weak impulse control. Medically, ADHD is a condition that is treatable, but incurable, because its actual cause is unknown.

Justin went through counseling sessions with the psychiatrist which helped little. He was prescribed a sedative to slow down his brain activity. Due to its adverse side effect of accelerated heartbeat and potential drug dependency, Jimson stopped the medication completely.

Overtaken by ADHD, Justin became easily provoked and more violent as time passed. His parents would receive complaints from his teachers and principal frequently. In one incident, his principal had to use a loud-hailer to coordinate the efforts of several teachers to subdue him. When cornered, he even threatened to jump from the third floor of the school building. With absolutely no interest to learn, he failed all the subjects in his Primary 5 final examinations in 2001.

At home, he also caused quite a stir in the neighborhood. Whenever Jimson disciplined him, Justin would resist violently and fight against his father, sometimes with knife, scissors or broomstick. Police patrol car and ambulance became a common sight at the neighborhood car park.

As Justin's ability to control his impulse deteriorated further, he would do whatever that came to his mind. Twice, he ran out from his family and was found running along busy expressways because he was bored and wanted to do his own things. Going to the police station had become a norm to Justin but because he was so young, there was not much that could be done to him.

During one of his violent outbursts, a police officer who witnessed Justin chasing Jimson with a stick taught the father how he could charge his son in the juvenile court. At their wits' end, Jimson and Molly concluded that locking Justin up would prevent him from further hurting himself and others and began to collect the necessary documents and evidence.

The day finally came for them to turn Justin in. With their hearts torn apart, Jimson and Molly brought him to court. Upon hearing Justin's case, the counselor on duty advised them against their intention. He told them that it was not fair for Justin to be charged because he was not on medication for his condition and therefore had no control over his behavior.

A staunch Taoist for many years, Jimson had searched for any gods that could help Justin but found none. One day, Molly met Siew Cheng whose son, Wilson Kong, was studying in the same school as Justin's. As Molly heard how Wilson was gloriously healed of epilepsy, dyslexia and ADHD at the Miracle Service, she saw a glimpse of hope.

Jimson, Molly and Justin came to the Miracle Service in February 2002 for the first time. Jimson and Molly brought along a few things to keep Justin preoccupied in case he could not sit still like before. However, they were pleasantly surprised that Justin kept quiet and paid full attention throughout the healing testimonies. That night, Jimson and Molly gave their hearts to Jesus.

Subsequently, with Pastor Clarence's help, they got rid of all the idols in their home. From then on, they attended the Miracle Service regularly. As Justin listened to the healing testimonies weekly, his condition improved progressively. He narrowly passed one out of four subjects in his first term Primary 6 examinations and managed only two passes in the mid term. That was a significant improvement. Encouraged, Justin prayed to Jesus to help him prepare for his PSLE.

By the time the PSLE results were out, not only did Justin pass all the four subjects, he was also completely delivered from ADHD. All the previous symptoms of short attention span, violence and weak impulse control had vanished. In His love and grace, Christ has become a reality to Justin and his whole family!

He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."
