Ace Cher was plagued by dizzy spells when he was about seven years old. Initially, they happened about once a week and lasted for only a few hours. As he grew older, the frequency increased. At first the dizzy spells only tormented him on alternate days, then it progressed to a daily occurrence. At the zenith of his plight, the dizzy spells would hit him for a stretch of up to nine months without any reprieve at all. Everything would literally spin around him all the time whether he was standing up or lying down.
Ace became unstable emotionally. Mentally he was plagued with fear. He had to shut all the windows and draw the curtains in his home when he was hit by the dizzy spell. If not, anxiety would come upon him as soon as the light shone into his eyes. Needless to say, he could not work on a job. In fact, he had to be helped by his younger brother when he visited the washroom. As a result, he became a huge burden to the family.
Many brain scans were conducted on him. His neurologist ascertained that there was no tumor in Ace. The cause of his dizzy spells remained unknown. After many visits, a renowned psychiatrist concluded that his condition was psychosomatic in nature. This implied that it was caused by mental or emotional problems such as stress and worry. Although he was prescribed muscle relaxant and sleeping pill, Ace found no relief. In fact, he became even more anxious. The only advice his psychiatrist could offer was for him to just take things easy.
Although Ace believed in God, he could not even pray with faith for his condition to be healed. He wrongly believed that the Lord deliberately gave him the sickness to shape his character. Sometimes, he would bang his head repeatedly against the wall in search for some relief. In desperation, he even had a friend hit the back of his head with a thick Bible. On top of it all, he would also become irritable easily. Once, while he was in a rage, he smashed up the computer in his home. In trying to stop him, Ace’s grandfather was almost gravely hurt when Ace unintentionally pushed him in the scuffle.
Then the dizzy spells just stopped when Ace was 25 years old. That was when he was able to hold a permanent job. Unfortunately, five years later, they returned to plague him again. This time, suicidal thoughts crept into his mind. He actually contemplated jumping from the 19th floor a few times. He was then locked up in the psychiatric ward of a hospital for a week. By the time he was discharged, he was so discouraged that he backslid from his faith.
On a Saturday afternoon in February 2007, he met Dickson, a Lighter, who was one of his customers. Noticing that Ace was obviously not feeling well, Dickson invited him to the Miracle Service. In desperation, he agreed. As soon as he stepped into the Sanctuary, Ace felt a sense of relief. When he joined in to worship God, he began to experience His love once again. Tears rolled down his cheeks and the hunger for God was restored. He started to attend three services on a typical Sunday, the Miracle Service on Saturday and also two cell group meetings in a week. The full counsel of the Word of God – Jesus came to save the lost, deliver the oppressed and heal the sick – impacted his life. As advised by his cell leader, Ace acted out his faith by working for as long as he could, even if it was just a few hours a day at first. Progressively, as his condition improved, he managed to increase his working hours gradually to a full day. He also learned to thank God for His healing every day as he woke up in the morning. From June 2007 onward, the dizzy spells completely stopped and has not returned. Amen!
Previously, as the eldest among his siblings, Ace used to be very domineering over them. After he was delivered from his condition, he had learnt to respect their views and also relate better with them now. All glory to God!
