| Delivered From A Life-Threatening Chest Deformity |
|
In 1984, Mark Quek was born with a chest deformity. His chest curved inward so deeply that his ribs pressed against his lungs. As a result, he had difficulty breathing. As he was always gasping for air, drinking milk was laborious as he frequently threw up whatever little he managed to swallow. Consequently, Mark became very weak and scrawny. Suffering from a continual bout of diarrhea and flu, he was crying most of the time.
Mark's doctor strongly recommended a corrective surgery for his deformed chest. Otherwise, Mark would surely die. However, the flip side to that option was Mark might not survive the surgery because he was too young and weak. In fact, his doctor told his parents to prepare for the worst. Mark's parents decided against the surgery.
Throughout his first few struggling months, all of Mark's relatives were pessimistic of his chance of survival as his grave condition was so apparent. Out of ignorance, Mark's grandmother brought him to see a temple medium who instructed that Mark be fed with water mixed with ashes of burnt yellow paper. Mark's condition became even worse with such a toxic input.
Stella, Mark's mother, had been against Christianity for many years. When her brother asked her to bring Mark to church for prayer, she finally relented out of despondency.
So, Mark at four-months-old, with his eyes wide open, mouth still gasping for breath and his skin blue and black in color, was brought into the ballroom of Hotel Grand Central, where Lighthouse Evangelism held her Sunday services back in 1984. Pastor Rony held Mark in his arms and prayed over him. Out of desperation, Stella received Christ into her heart that day and deliberately put her faith in Jesus to heal Mark.
Over the next few months, Stella also confessed the powerful Word of God over Mark's life daily. Progressively, his condition improved. After just a few months, Mark began to breathe normally and his skin was no longer blue but a healthy pink instead. Able to drink milk well, he gained weight steadily. God, in His mercy, had delivered Mark from certain death without any surgery.
At the Miracle Service on February 23, 2002, Mark, a tall and healthy teenage of 18, stood before the congregation. He thanked God for miraculously healing him and for his loving mother who has prayed and cared for him unceasingly. He also added that as a contrast to being weak and breathless, he even clocked a good time in his recent 2.4 km fitness test run. All glory and honor to God!
