Weekly Devotionals – 27 November 2023

We are less than a month away from Christmas. As a child, I remember making requests for certain things; many of which materialised on Christmas morning. Many years have passed since those precious memories of childhood, yet there remains a list of unfulfilled desires of the heart. Once again, the question is posed to us from the Lord – What can I do for you?

With childlike faith, it is time to come before the Lord and make our requests known to Him.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; (Philippians 4:6)

In Part 2 of our series on this topic, we will examine the invitation given to Jeremiah. This great prophet had been in prison for the second time – an experience that the Lord had established and allowed. Amid his prison experience, the Lord gives Jeremiah the opportunity to call upon His name. There is the added promise that God would show Him things beyond what he could imagine.

Perhaps you see yourself in a trial or predicament that is difficult to bear. The events taking place in the world only add to our sense of despair and hopelessness. It would be easy to give up and become discouraged. It’s times like this when the Lord provides us with the opportunity to call upon His name.

There are four primary blessings that God spoke to Jeremiah that He would do:

Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. (Jeremiah 33:6)

1. The Blessing of Health
There are many needs for healing, especially since the onset of Covid. Do you have loved ones and colleagues in poor health? Or perhaps you need healing in your own life? By faith, let this be a request that you bring before the Lord.

2. The Blessing of Healing
The ministry of healing is a gift that God has given to Lighthouse Evangelism over the years. It is a gift and ministry that God wants to increase in greater measure to the church. The ministry of healing allows the Light of Christ to shine as a worldwide witness. By faith, let us come before the Lord and make request for a healing wave to flow in and through Lighthouse Evangelism to the nations.

And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes. (Ezekiel 47:9)

3. Abundance of Peace
The world is in constant pursuit of that elusive peace (Jeremiah 6:14). The current situation in the Middle East makes this promise of peace seem like a long-lost dream. Is our day any different from when the Prince of Peace came to earth as a man? Do we appreciate how precious this gift of peace is? Now, more than ever, we need an abundance of peace to come into our world, our churches, our homes as well as our individual lives.

4. Abundance of Truth
We live in a world that constantly seeks to redefine truth. The words of Pilate come to mind when he asked the question, what is truth (John 18:38)? Little did he know that he was standing before The Truth, the Lord Himself.

One of the requests we need to bring before the Lord is that we have the desire to both love and embrace the Truth. It is the Truth of God that liberates and ultimately sets people free from their respective prisons.

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

In this season of Christmas, would it be possible for us to come before the Lord with that child-like faith of expectation and wonder? Would it be possible to experience a fresh measure of His Joy and Peace? These invitations in asking God what he can for us are given to those who have paid a price. It is given to those who are thankful and appreciative to God no matter their situation. He is a God who takes great pleasure in answering the prayer and requests of His children.
